How to Find a Real Estate Agent

Connecting with the right real estate agent can make all the difference. Seek out an agent who is professional and has some experience, and one who will also listen to you. Also, choose an agent who demonstrates ethical conduct and also makes it obvious to you that they know your market.

One way to seek out an ethical, law-abiding real estate agent is to hire an agent who displays the Realtor® logo. Not all real estate agents are able to display this logo. Displaying this logo, however, means that such an agent belongs to the National Association of Realtors. Belonging to this association means that a realtor or broker has made a pledge to follow the seventeen articles and comprehensive list of underlying standards of practice, known as the Code of Ethics. This established level of conduct is higher than those required by law or common business practices.

Be certain to take advantage of other client experiences. Ask for references from a potential real estate agent. Then actually check the references out. Another way to check out references is to ask people you know and trust who they have used in the past and how they felt about the experience. You are looking for an agent who goes the extra mile, not one who just covers the basics.

Another good way to meet agents without them knowing they are being checked out is to attend open houses. This will give you an excellent idea of how an agent deals with clientele. Just ask yourself one simple question, “Is this the way I want my potential buyers to be treated?”

Do not forget the Internet. Conduct an online search of real estate companies in your area. Read up on testimonials. Agents with experience will mention their experience. Do not count out newer agents. They may have more time to make available for you and may be just what you are looking for.
